2010 Charm City Challenge Cancelled

Baltimore, MD (February 8, 2010) – Corrigan Sports Enterprises, Inc. (CSE) announced today this year’s Charm City Challenge has been cancelled due to lack of corporate sponsorship. The annual boys high school basketball game would have celebrated its 10th anniversary this April.

Lee Corrigan, President of CSE, said, “In this current economic climate it’s been difficult to find a sponsor who could step up to the line and fund the event this year. It’s sad because this game served as the biggest platform for Baltimore’s elite to showcase their talent against the top U.S. All-Stars. Ultimately the kids have lost the most from this situation.”

In the previous nine games, the Baltimore All-Stars had a record of 6-3 vs. the U.S. All-Stars. Scores of former participants have gone on to star at the professional and collegiate level. Five current NBA players (Dante Cunningham, Trail Blazers; Josh Boone, Nets; Jarrett Jack, Raptors; Jack McClinton, Spurs; Dajuan Summers, Pistons) appeared in the Charm City Challenge.

Many University of Maryland fans got their first peek at future Terps through the Charm City Challenge, including Greivis Vasquez, Eric Hayes, James Gist, D.J. Strawberry and Chris McCray. The event also has the distinction of having an alumnus participate in each of the last eight NCAA Final Fours.

“Hopefully we can resurrect this game a year from now. We’ll do everything we can to revive it because we feel the Charm City Challenge has become a part of the fabric of Baltimore basketball,” Corrigan concluded.

If you have any interest in the event, please contact Lee Corrigan or Matt Cornell at 410.605.9381.
